{"id":4164,"date":"2025-11-16T22:49:04","date_gmt":"2025-11-16T22:49:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wilsonschoolpetaluma.org\/content\/?page_id=4164"},"modified":"2025-11-16T22:52:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-16T22:52:12","slug":"awards","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wilsonschoolpetaluma.org\/content\/awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Wilson School Receives Countywide Recognition for Inclusive Excellence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Petaluma, CA<\/em> \u2014 Wilson School has been selected as this year\u2019s recipient of the <strong>Sonoma County SELPA Spirit Award<\/strong>, a distinction that honors schools demonstrating an exceptional commitment to inclusive education and whole-child development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Presented annually by the Sonoma County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA), the award shines a spotlight on schools that go above and beyond to create learning environments where all students\u2014regardless of ability, background, or need\u2014are supported, celebrated, and empowered to succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis award is a recognition of our team\u2019s belief that any student can thrive when given support, care, and high expectations,\u201d said <strong>Steve Hospodar<\/strong>, Superintendent and Principal of Wilson School. \u201cWe\u2019re living our mission every day, creating a space where all kids feel safe, seen, and inspired to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Spirit Award not only acknowledges strong academic programming but also highlights schools that embrace emotional support, community building, and inclusive teaching practices. At Wilson School, this approach is reflected in its daily work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Adapting instruction and supports for every learner from TK through sixth grade<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fostering a school culture built on trust, kindness, and belonging<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prioritizing strategies that address both academic and social-emotional needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Diva Shinzato, Kindergarten Teacher<\/strong>, offered a personal reflection on what the recognition means to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s not just about me teaching kids, it\u2019s about me learning from kids,\u201d she said. \u201cDuring this journey, I have learned how to celebrate the smallest victories and how to believe in the potential of each student, even when the path is not straightforward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Lisa Blakley, Special Education Teacher<\/strong>, emphasized the power of a unified school vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs part of our Wilson Team, I have seen a daily commitment to providing access, equity, and respect for all students,\u201d Blakely said. \u201cRegardless of individual backgrounds and abilities, students are included within a supportive and transformative environment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Staff, students, and families at Wilson School are celebrating the honor not just as a milestone, but as motivation to continue their efforts.
