Jubilee American Dance Theater at Wilson School
Wilson Elementary School was fortunate enough to have the Jubilee American Dance Theater performers provide assemblies for the lower and upper grade students. On March 31, the musicians and dancers put on a classic assembly that featured folk dancing and some actual practice for the young students. During the intermission for the changing of the shoes, into tap shoes, the musicians provided entertainment by signing the old favorite, “Crawdad Hole.” The students quickly learned the chorus and joined in.
There was a lot of toe tapping and clapping in the audience throughout the performance. When the dancers were finished performing, they joined the audience and gave instructions on the Virginia Reel. The students and the teachers enjoyed the program and the dancing. There is even talk of doing an evening performance so families can learn the dances together like they used to when the United States was just a young country.
